Displays FAS, located in Arlington, Texas, the largest dedicated fine art handling company in the state, is looking for a new team member to work as Storage Manager. As a growing company, we are seeking an enthusiastic team player to take over management of a well-established storage system.

A full-service fine art handling company, Displays FAS has been providing the best customer service in the region to all of our clients for the past 19 years. Our services include museum-quality storage as well as regional and national transit, installation and de-installation of artwork, and custom fabrication of crates and museum furniture.

With a range of clientele such as museums, private collectors, corporation, and galleries we strive to meet the special needs that dealing with their fine art and other valuable objects present. On any given day our unique team of professionals will be spread out across the country picking up the most recent acquisition for a private collector from a New York gallery, assisting a local museum to install a new show, or arranging the delivery and installation of a monumental sculpture. All of these jobs require the support of the administrative staff and the Storage Manager in particular.

The challenges Displays FAS face in meeting our client’s needs has made us into a close company of diverse individuals. With a wide range of backgrounds, many from the arts, our employees work together as a great team that are always ready to jump in and do whatever is needed to complete a job. The Storage Manager leads the warehouse team and acts as registrar to an inventory that rivals many museum collections. Overseeing a 50,000+ square foot warehouse and managing storage for multiple clients takes attention to detail and an ability to multitask. The Storage Manager is responsible for carefully tracking all items that come into the care of Displays. This position is also at the point of customer contact by answering phone calls, visiting clients in the field and driving sales in the storage area. A customer focused personality is crucial.

Compensation is based on experience and comparable to that found in museum registrar positions and managers for private collections.


This position:
-Reports to the Operations Manager/General Manager.
-Manages staff of Dock Manager and supplemental warehouse staff.
-Requires a Bachelor degree in art, museum management, or related field.
-Requires four years experience in handling/management of medium to large art collection, preferably museum quality. (Experience in warehouse management may substitute for some art collection management.)
-Requires an ability to lift 50 lbs unassisted and heavier weights assisted on a daily basis and be able to climb stairs on a regulare basis (office is on the 2nd floor).
-Requires an experience with database programs and general office programs.
Past experience driving a forklift a plus.

Duties
-Manage incoming and outgoing items, both long term and short term. This includes but is not limited to:
-Entering new items in the database.
-Placing items in their proper location. This includes heavy lifting and delicate operation of forklift and other lift equipment.
-Staging items and preparing them for outgoing transit.
-Maintain the integrity of the storage database by ensuring the veracity of all data related to various items.
-Maintain all paperwork associated with storage, including but not limited to:
-Copies of BOLs.
-Storage Contracts and Warehouse Receipts.
-Release forms.
-Condition Reports.
-Maintain all items in storage which includes, but not limited to:
-Placing items in proper storage areas.
-Insuring that all items are stored properly and safely.
-Tagging all items in storage with database tags.
-Prepare and send out all invoices related to monthly storage bills, including but not limited to tracking the total space used by each client each month and ensure that each bill correctly reflects space used.
-Prepare and send out invoices for in-house storage related work.
-Schedule work that needs to take place onsite.
-Coordinate and supervise all storage related work with or without clients on site.
-Be the primary contact for all clients with questions regarding storage and warehouse related activities.
-Be the primary contact for potential customers interested in storage and drive sales in this area.
-Oversee the functioning of all climate control systems throughout the building especially in the vaults. Maintain daily records of temperature and humidity readings.
-Seek out and remain familiar with current art handling and storage practices and procedures.
-Examine current storage practices and look for ways to improve and expand those used at Displays FAS.
-Assist in general office activities and administrative functions including but not limited to:
-Answering phone calls and assisting clients, vendors, employees and other callers with their needs.
-Assist with scheduling of jobs for all of Displays FAS as needed.
-Assist other administrative employees as needed.
-Familiarize yourself with all administrative activities to provide coverage to other employees.
-Manage special projects not related to storage as need arises and time permits.
-Develop sales campaigns that seek to fully maximize storage.
-Assist with or manage in the field jobs that may or may not be storage related.
-Attend conferences (travel 10%-20%)
-Participate in or lead other projects and take on other duties and responsibilities as directed to by the Operations Manager and/or General Manager.
