The mission of the Skirball Cultural Center is to deepen the appreciation of Jewish heritage and American democratic ideals. The Skirball welcomes and affirms every ethnic and cultural identity.
The Skirball seeks a dynamic, dedicated individual to join the Skirball Museum team as Exhibition Manager. Reporting to the Museum Director, the Exhibition Manager will coordinate changing and traveling exhibitions, permanent exhibition maintenance, and other Museum projects and initiatives across curatorial, design, and registrarial divisions. The incumbent is expected to have experience working successfully in collaborative environments and providing team leadership.
Responsibilities:
Developing and updating project priorities and timelines for permanent and temporary exhibitions
Working with curators, registrars, and exhibition design and production teams to develop long-lead and detailed schedules for Museum exhibition projects and initiatives
Supervising the preparation and tracking of Museum operating budget and exhibition project budgets
Organizing project meetings and reviews
Drafting contracts and overseeing contractual commitments of Museum projects
Preparing and negotiating touring agreements for Skirball-organized exhibitions
Developing tour itineraries and coordinating activities related to installation of Skirball exhibitions at other venues
Supervising an administrative assistant to ensure that meetings, schedules, reports, and records are handled smoothly and efficiently
Job Requirements
Thorough knowledge of the exhibition development and design process
Effective communication skills
Capacity to work with people of diverse cultures and economic backgrounds
Appreciation and understanding of the Skirball Cultural Center mission
Computer skills in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook)
Demonstrated success in organizational and project management skills; career path of increasing responsibility and effectiveness in managing museum projects
Excellent connections with other museum professionals and exhibition service providers
Degree in Museum Administration or related field and at least four years of experience working in a museum; advanced degree preferred
