NEUE GALERIE NEW YORK, MUSEUM FOR GERMAN AND AUSTRIAN ART
POSITION: Registrar, Full time
Primary responsibilities:
Provides strong leadership and management in all areas of collection and
exhibition management
Arranges all packing and shipping, including arranging courier
accommodations, both for the permanent collection and special exhibitions
Reviews facility reports, insurance policies and loan agreements
Manages all staff within the department, consisting primarily of a
preparator/exhibitions coordinator, associate registrar and part-time art
handlers
Develops long-term preservation/conservation plans for the collection
Manages all exhibition-related operations, including working with exhibition
designers, curators and vendors related to specific exhibition
Oversees the maintenance of the collection files, both paper and electronic
Manages storage facilities, implements condition necessary for the
safeguarding of all works within the permanent collection and those under
care of the museum
Handles all insurance-related matters, including but not limited to: insurance
certificates, management and overseeing the update of annual insurance
policy, claims processing, reciprocal agreements.
Manages all US Indemnity and Immunity from Seizure applications
Reviews foreign Indemnities and Immunity laws and makes recommendations
in regards to procedures ensuring the safe-handling of outgoing loans
Processes gifts to the museum and assures the proper handling and
documentation of promised gifts
Insures the handling and management of long term loans to the museum
Requirements:
At least 7 years of experience as a Registrar with a minimum of 3 years in a
supervisory position
Ability to plan, prioritize and manage multiple projects
Excellent organizational, analytical, and logistical abilities, along with strong
written and verbal communication skills
Experience in collection management systems, preferably Mimsy
Four-year degree in Art History or related field
Strong management skills
Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
Strong computer skills (Word, Excel)
Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines
Strong budgetary skills and ability to create estimates Capacity to work in tandem with the CFO on annual budgetary revisions and
estimates
Understanding of museum policies and legal issues
Proficiency in German
