The John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art, in its affiliation with Florida State University, is one of the largest museum/university complexes in the nation. Located on an impressive 66-acre Sarasota bay front estate, it preserves the legacy of John and Mable Ringling, educating and enabling a large and diverse audience to experience and take delight in a world-renowned collection of fine art and special exhibitions; Ca d'Zan, the Ringling historic mansion; the Circus Museums; the Tibbals Learning Center; the Historic Asolo Theater; and historic architecture, courtyard, gardens and grounds overlooking the Sarasota Bay. An Education Building houses our library, conservation facility, classrooms, and staff offices. The Visitors Pavilion serves some 350,000 guests annually. Under the Supervision of the Assistant Director of Collections, The Ringling's Senior Preparator has primary responsibility for managing all preparation work for all of the Museum venues.

Responsibilities:
Supervises the Preparation Department staff to include hiring, training and evaluation. In collaboration with the Registrar's Office, plans the work of preparation staff/contractors and directs and participates in the fabrication, installation, disassemble and storage of collections and exhibitions. Develops/managers a gallery and equipment preventative maintenance plan to include mechanical lifts, gallery lighting, carpentry shop/tools, materials and supplies. Works with the Registrar, Curatorial, Conservation staff to fabricate and install exhibitions, objects and supporting materials, install and maintain permanent galleries and special/temporary exhibition spaces and art storage areas. Oversees exhibition design and preparation to ensure project deadlines are met for exhibition openings.
In concert with Registrar's office, assists in facilitating receiving, mounting and dispersing works in the permanent collection and on loan. Builds, packs and crates objects. Serves as team member with Curatorial, Registrar, Conservation, Facilities and Security staff in planning and supervising movement and installation of works for all exhibition spaces. Participates in emergency planning, response and mitigation.

Qualifications:
· A Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years of related experience in a museum environment; or a high school diploma/equivalent and 9 years in the same. (Please note: post-high school education will substitute for experience at an equivalent rate.)
· Experience with the principles and practices of collection management to include proper handling, installation, shipping and receiving works of art in a variety of media.
· Experience interpreting technical and artistic designs, managing installations of exhibitions.
· Experience supervising staff and managing projects to ensure deadlines are met.
· Skill in framing, carpentry work, and safely using a variety of shop tools.
· Ability to meet the physical requirement of the position: ability to climb ladders, lift and move objects up to 5OIbs, and operate power tools.
· A valid Florida driver's license or the ability to obtain prior to hire.

Preferred:
· A Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Studio Art, Art History.
· A Bachelor's degree in Performance and Media Arts strongly preferred.
· Experience with mount making
· Experience with disaster preparedness, response and mitigation plans, ideally as it relates to hurricane response.

Anticipated Salary Range: Low to Mid $40,000 annually. Florida State benefits available. Salary commensurate with experience.
