Job Title: Shop Supervisor
Department: DC - Crating
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
The nation’s largest and most comprehensive service provider to museums, galleries, auction houses and private collectors has an immediate opening for a Shop Supervisor. The essential functions of this position provides supervision of the crate shop daily mechanics and follow the lead of crating management to ensure appropriate crating for clients.
Specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Responsible for the daily schedule to ensure all crate jobs are completed and prepared for delivery in a timely manner;
Active involvement in crate construction; provides technical assistance to resolve potential customer issues;
Ensures materials are well stocked for day-to-day crate production by performing weekly inventory;
Maintains general upkeep/repair of shop tools and machinery;
Performs basic training for crate assembly along with general shop and tool safety instructions to shop technicians;
Other relevant duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate will possess the following as minimum qualifications:
Two to four years of college and related experience in crating techniques and archival packing skills;
Strong knowledge of math – able to calculate figures and amounts using addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, proportions, percentages, areas, circumferences and volumes;
Frequently lift and/or move up to 75 lbs. with or without mechanical assistance;
Demonstrated working knowledge of crate building and/or packing;
Demonstrated ability to manage people; demonstrated ability to facilitate problem resolution;
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
