Job DescriptionPOSITION SUMMARY:
Full-time, benefited position with the Center for Creativity and the Arts through the California State University, Fresno Foundation. The incumbent will be responsible to provide oversight of a major retrospective exhibition from Mexico’s National Institute for the Fine Arts (INBA) held in a temporary space on campus to open spring 2016. The position is temporary and its duration will vary based on availability of funding. It is estimated to span October 2014 through July 2016.
ESSENTIAL JOB
FUNCTIONS:
Under the direction of the Executive Director of the Center for Creativity and Arts, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties. Typical duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Preparation of legal paperwork related to international transactions
Creates and maintains loan database, oversees and tracks all loans pertaining to the exhibition
Coordinates activities relating to insurance of Mexican Patrimony and procures reproduction rights for all artwork
Acts as liaison with United States and Mexico customs
Develops policies and procedures for the handling and care of the works of art; assists the coordination of incoming exhibition loans schedule
Recommends and oversees the packing, crating and transport of all works of art
As a representative of the University to INBA, communicates frequently with Mexican officials, travels as needed, negotiates transactions, writes condition and facility reports in English and Spanish, oversees the photographic reproduction of all works, and conducts some research for exhibitions
Monitors galleries and recommends preventative housekeeping, Insect pest Management (IMP)PM and environmental monitoring activities
Aids the Executive Project Director and Education Director in the preparation of grants and project budget
Helps with collections management and preventative conservation projects as needed or assigned
Act as courier during the traveling of the exhibition.
Knowledge of government regulations, international (Mexican) regulations, and legal requirements relating to collections including copyright, 36 CFRPart79, NAGPRA and the Endangered Species Act.
Strong oral, written, and organizations skills in English and Spanish.
Other duties may be assigned.

& EXPERIENCE:
Master's degree required in Museum Studies or other appropriate discipline, such as Art History, along with formal museum studies coursework
Minimum three (3) years of museum registration and/or collections management
Up-to-date knowledge of professional museum standards and trends
Knowledge of government regulations, international (Mexican) regulations, and legal requirements relating to collections including copyright, 36 CFRPart79, NAGPRA and the Endangered Species Act
Knowledge of Mexican Cultural Patrimony and UNESCO a plus
Knowledge of preventative conservation theory, policy and practice for fine art, photoarchives, and archive collections
Experience with professional collections management software and environmental monitoring equipment
Experience with digital photography, photography techniques and Photoshop software
Strong oral, written, and organizations skills in English and Spanish
Ability to maintain confidentiality in all professional matters
Demonstrated ability to communicate, orally and in writing, with staff, trustees, vendors, and others
Good organizational skills and attention to detail
Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite or other similar products in Mac
Supervisory skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team
Must be able to lift heaving containers weighing up to 50 pounds
