Archaeology/Ethnology
Definition:
Under the general direction of the Assistant Curator, Archaeology/Ethnology in the Department of State, State Museum, determines, plans, executes, and makes decisions for the maintenance, organization and preservation of all objects and associated records in the Bureau of Archaeology/Ethnology; processes loans, supervises the care and handling of all materials on loan to the Museum; supervises the recording and management of data on collections and materials entering or leaving the museum; oversees the rights and reproductions for use of collections for research and publication; responds to research inquiries; participates in the work of the Museum's Collections Committee and other internal collections groups; participates in the planning and evaluation of exhibits and programs; serves as an active participant in the NJSM's efforts towards AAM re-accreditation and advancement of the Museum's Strategic Plan; aids in conducting excavations which contribute archaeological specimens to the collection; maintains the inventory and mapping of all reported and known archaeological sites in New Jersey; does other related duties.
REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in anthropology, including or supplemented by six (6) semester hours credits in Northeastern North American Prehistory.
EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of experience in Northeastern archeological field and laboratory work involving the research and identification of archeological and ethnological items and materials.
LICENSE: Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in NJ only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee's mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position.
RESIDENCY: New Jersey Residency required. If you do not reside in New Jersey, you have one year after the date you begin employment to relocate your residence to New Jersey.
