The National Aquarium is seeking an innovative Exhibit Designer to design new exhibitions and experiences to inspire the conservation of the world’s aquatic treasures. Our exhibit designers work collaboratively with interdisciplinary in-house teams to create interpretive aquarium exhibitions that feature complex living exhibits, tell compelling stories, offer engaging, interactive experiences, and engage over a million guests a year in caring about the aquatic world. The Exhibit Designer also works with external architectural and engineering teams and specialty fabrication firms, in addition to our own high-tech, in-house fabrication division, to realize their designs for ‘world class’ temporary and permanent exhibitions.
Requirements of this job include:
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Exhibition Design, Industrial Design, Architecture or other related design field.
Three or more years on-the-job experience creating interpretive exhibitions for museums, zoos/aquariums or similar organizations.
Excellent visual, verbal and written design communication skills including demonstrated ability to sketch and build 3D models as design problem solving skills.
Proficiency in Vectorworks (2D and 3D), AutoCAD, Rhino or other 3D modeling; knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office programs.
Ability and interest in working collaboratively with others.
Strong organizational skills.
Demonstrated knowledge of space planning, museum exhibition best practices and standards, exhibition lighting, fabrication methods
