ASSOCIATE REGISTRAR FOR EXHIBITIONS


The Museum of Arts and Design in New York City is seeking an experienced Exhibitions Registrar at the associate level.

He/she will be assigned traveling and in-house exhibitions for which he/she will coordinate shipping, packing/crating, customs brokerage, insurance, courier arrangements, incoming artist arrangements for onsite installations, and freight forwarding from consolidation through dispersal.

Further responsibilities for these exhibitions will include:

Supervision/Exhibition Coordination


[*=-1]Supervise installation/de-installation (onsite and at other venues)

[*=-1]Coordinate the scheduling of art handlers for installation/deinstallation with Head Preparator

[*=-1]Create exhibition schedule of shipments/couriers and security access lists for distribution to admissions/security/Exhibitions Manager

[*=-1]Ensure light levels, lender and display restrictions are met in installation and design plans


Budget/Finance


[*=-1]Create exhibition registration budgets for review by Registrar and Exhibitions Dept., assist with budget forecasting and continually update expenditures and anticipated expenditures

[*=-1]Submit payment requisitions for related costs


Contracts


[*=-1]Review and submit comments/suggestions on Exhibition Contracts

[*=-1]Review venue facilities reports

[*=-1]Assist in revisions of standard loan agreement/contract language as necessary


Documentation


[*=-1]Process signed Loan Agreements for co-signature, copies to curators, etc.

[*=-1]Create and compile condition report notebooks and write condition reports upon unpacking/repacking of exhibition loans

[*=-1]Create and maintain Lender and Shipping files

[*=-1]With Exhibitions team, create crate lists, packing notes and special handling instructions for distribution to traveling exhibition venues

[*=-1]Record object locations and shipping information in TMS database


Qualifications

Minimum three years museum exhibition registration (traveling exhibit experience required).

Familiarity with international/domestic fine art shipping/crating companies, intl. crating standards and TSA shipping and screening requirements, and experience with 3-D objects. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and a proactive, collaborative disposition required.

General proficiency in Windows and database applications (candidates with TMS proficiency highly desirable).

Candidate must be detail-oriented with the ability to work independently and multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Four-year degree required and graduate degree in museum studies or related field is preferred.
