SUMMARY OF POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Department of Museums, Archives & Rare Books (MARB) at Kennesaw State University seeks a dedicated, thorough and efficient individual for the position of Collections Support Specialist. The Collections Specialist is a support position responsible for assisting the registrar of the Zuckerman Museum of Art and archival team at the Kennesaw State University Archives. With the consolidation with SPSU, MARB’s collections continue to grow, and this position will assist with that growth. Duties include assisting the ZMA registrar with maintaining appropriate documentation for artwork in the care of the ZMA, and assisting with conservation assessments and exhibit and loan documentation. In addition, the Collections Specialist will also assist the archivists with processing archival collections, and carrying out special projects including digitization and indexing. Duties include creating collection inventories, and carrying out processing, data entry, scanning and indexing projects and tasks as assigned by the archivists.
The Department consists of the Museum of History and Holocaust Education; the Zuckerman Museum of Art; the KSU Archives; the Bentley Rare Book Gallery; and the Office of Records Management.
The successful candidate must be a team player; have excellent organizational and communication skills as well as strong interpersonal and planning skills; communicate clearly and effectively; be a problem solver; and have the ability to ensure processes are completed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


Assist with the arrangement and description of archival collections
Create preliminary collection inventories
Rehouse and stabilize archival materials as directed
Assist with creating collection processing plans
Assist archivists with collection maintenance projects and with transfer of archival materials
Enter collection information into content management system
Digitize documents and collections as assigned, using scanning best practices
Carry out other tasks as assigned, including indexing and special projects
Assist with creating and managing required documentation of the ZMA’s art collections
Assist with art collection assessments including conservation and preservation, insurance, framing, photography, storage and inventories
Assist in creating and managing documentation for loans and exhibitions of artworks under the care of the ZMA

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree, 3 years related experience in museums or related field.



Desired Qualifications:
KNOWLEDGE OF:


Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office Suite applications.
Experience with PastPerfect, Archon or Archivists’ Toolkit is preferred.
Understanding of archive and art collection best practices and standards is preferred.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE


Bachelor’s degree and three years of experience working in an archive or with art collection management required. Graduate degree strongly preferred.
