JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
ORGANIZATION: National Museum of Women in the Arts
POSITION: Assistant Registrar
DEPARTMENT: Curatorial
SUPERVISOR: Registrar

Position Summary
The Assistant Registrar works in all areas of collection management to maintain the physical and intellectual control of the Museum’s collection and objects on loan.

Major Responsibilities
· Maintain and improve the collections database system
· Coordinate and assist with collections rotations and special installations
· Assist with collections inventory and maintaining collections storage
· Prepare correspondence, execute necessary documentation for objects coming into and going out from the collection; track object movement; process new acquisitions, catalogue objects
· Coordinate logistics including packing, shipping and insurance arrangements for new acquisitions, outgoing and incoming loans
· Assist in collections conservation projects with contract conservators
· Process third-party image requests and seek copyright permissions for collection objects
· Assist Registrar in preparing budgets, writing grants, researching and updating disaster preparedness plan, de-accessioning plan, facility report and collections management policies and procedures

Qualifications
Education/Experience: The position requires a graduate degree or undergraduate degree and a minimum of 2 years museum experience or equivalent experience working with a fine art collection

Successful applicant will possess:
· The ability to travel when necessary and a valid Passport
· Excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse staff, artists, other museums, galleries and private lenders
· Strong computer skills, and ability to learn new technologies
· Knowledge of ethical principles and professional practices governing museum registration, proper art handling techniques and an understanding of basic preventative conservation methods, fine art packing and shipping standards (preferred)
