MANAGER OF EXHIBITS – F/T
POSITION SUMMARY
The Manager of Exhibits works directly for the Vice President of Exhibitions and is responsible for the creation of exhibit projects from development through installation. The Manager of Exhibits ensures exhibit and design projects are coordinated and managed effectively and is responsible for the administration and supervision of the exhibits team including a permanent and contract staff of preparators, carpenters, fabricators, installers and graphic designers. The Manager of Exhibits oversees exhibit operations, preparation, maintenance and coordination of the installation schedule and equipment needs for traveling exhibits.
The Manager of Exhibits assures that daily operations and activities of the Exhibits Department are carried out in an efficient and quality manner, including appropriate maintenance to support the Museum’s objectives and to assure all installation and repairs are timely, cost effective and support institutional goals and practices. Oversee and manage department involvement for capital construction, special repairs, preventative maintenance, emergency and safety repairs, special events, and administrative overhead. The Manager of Exhibits creates layouts and exhibit component designs for in-house curated exhibitions and other projects as assigned by the Vice President of Exhibitions.
RESPONSIBILITIES
· Manages all audio visual equipment and audio visual/media setups for exhibitions and programs
· Manages the repair, maintenance and inventory of all audio-visual equipment
· Set up audio-visual equipment and systems as needed
· Provides technical support in all aspects of audio-visual technology and assists with the design, construction and installation of exhibits.
· Manages the general shop and woodworking equipment including maintaining hand and power tools
· Maintains lighting in the exhibition galleries and program spaces
· Works collaboratively with internal and external teams
· Responsible for budgeting, project management, communication and team building
· Streamline operations to obtain effective actions and products
EDUCATION
Required: Degree in Visual Arts, or design related-field with hands-on fabrication experience
Preferred: Electronic/Technical degree or equivalent work experience
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
Minimum 5 years museum experience, preferably in a history and science museum
Knowledge of museum exhibit design standards and techniques
Ability to lead and administer teams while working on multiple projects
Strong administrative skills and ability to lead, organize, delegate and ensure good communication within the exhibits team and multi-departmental teams
Experience with presentation drawing, drafting and construction drawing
Experience in exhibition design, lighting, fabrication and installation
Proficiency with AutoCAD drawing programs, Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office Suite
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be in good physical condition; able to perform moderate lifting, walking, and climbing stairs
· Must be able to work a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays, and evenings
Ability to lift at least 50 lbs
