The Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum is a non-profit, educational institution featuring the legendary aircraft carrier Intrepid, the space shuttle Enterprise, the world’s fastest jets and a guided missile submarine. Opened in 1982, the Museum, anchored aboard the former USS Intrepid, a National Historic Landmark, has welcomed more than 2 million visitors since 2012. The Mission of the Intrepid Museum is to promote the awareness and understanding of history, science and service through its collections, exhibitions and programming, in order to honor our heroes, educate the public and inspire our youth.
Collections Management InternshipThe Collections Manager at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum seeks an intern for a part-time (2-3 days a week) internship over the summer months. The intern, reporting to the Collections Manager, will assist in cataloging and processing the Museum’s photograph and US Navy manual collections. If you are interested in artifact collections work and naval history, this is a great opportunity to gain practical experience in the museum profession.
Duties and Responsibilities may include:
Cataloging of permanent collections in accordance with professional and ethical standards established by AAM.
Assisting with the re-organization of storage spaces as well as the re-housing of artifacts within those areas.
Performing collections data entry on The Museum System (TMS).
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
A recent college graduate or a current advanced degree student in a museum studies, library science/archive or related program. Previous experience in handling historic artifacts, TMS, as well as archives management desirable.
Summer internship program is for a 10 week period beginning Monday June 8th - August 14th, paid through a stipend.
