The Conservation Center forArt & Historic Artifacts (CCAHA) in Philadelphia is seeking a full-timePreservation Specialist. This position contributes to the mission of CCAHA through conductinginstitutional assessments and assisting with institutional preservationplanning; developing and presenting educational programs; and providingtechnical information to libraries, archives, museums, historic sites, andother cultural institutions. The responsibilities of this position include conducting on-sitepreservation needs assessments and risk assessments with written reports;assisting institutions to develop preservation plans, emergency plans, andcollections management policies; developing, presenting, and organizingeducational programs and workshops; presenting lectures and preparing programsfor professional and lay audiences to promote awareness of preservation andconservation concerns and practices; and providing technical information viatelephone, e-mail, and in print on preservation topics. The PreservationSpecialist also maintains familiarity with preservation literature, and mayalso be called upon to write articles for publication. This position offers potential for professionalgrowth through varied and challenging activities. Qualifications include training in and a thorough understandingof preservation principles, practice, and issues, including emerging issues indigital preservation; experience in conducting and writing preservationassessments and other planning documents for cultural institutions; talent inteaching and public speaking; excellent written, verbal and interpersonalcommunication skills; ability to work independently; MLS (or equivalent), MA inMuseum Studies, or MS in Conservation and a minimum of two years experienceworking in a museum or historic site. Travel is required. Salary iscommensurate with experience.
