The Metropolitan Museum of Art,one of the world’s finest museums, seeks an Installation Coordinator in theExhibition Office. The InstallationCoordinator for Breuer is responsible for overseeing the handling of art andthe performance of technical functions associated with the production andinstallation of exhibitions. Reporting to the Exhibitions Project Manager, s/heworks closely with building managers, registrar, department administrators,curators, and other teams across the museum, as well as with outside arttransport specialists and art handlers.
PrimaryResponsibilities and Duties:
· Oversee and assist with management of andplanning for installations and dismantling of artwork displays
· Source,train, and supervise art handlers for all related needs, including preparation,packing and shipping, gallery construction, and exhibition installation· Negotiate,purchase, and manage materials and supplies, maintain relationships andaccounts with key vendors· AssistingBreuer Exhibition Coordinator in managing exhibition budgets, secure bids foroutside services and resolving budgets on a regular basis· Requestand provide specifications for basic carpentry and upholstery related toexhibition installation; oversee all aspects of installation preparation,including paint touch-ups, as well as the mounting, matting, glazing and framingof objects· Overseethe mounting, installing and maintaining of art in galleries; installing ofsecurity hardware and graphics· Ensureroutine maintenance, including lighting, dusting and cleaning and time-basedmedia is completed· Recordthe movement and location of objects and enter into TMS collections managementdatabase· Other duties asassigned
Requirementsand Qualifications:
Experience and Skills:
· Minimum five years art handling experience,preferably in a museum environment
· Basic carpentry skills; mechanical aptitude
· Working knowledge of registrar and artconservation best practices
· Meticulous attention to detail required; abilityto multi-task, remain flexible and work constructively with other, often underpressure
· Reliability and discretion

Knowledge and Education:
· Bachelors of Art degree preferred
· Knowledgeof Office systems and TMS required
