Academy Museum of Motion Pictures
This position is in the Collections Management Department of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures and reports to the Chief Registrar. This is temporary full-time position which is slated to end June 30, 2016.
This position will be essential in the museum’s collection inventory and assessment efforts as well as the daily handling, care and preservation of objects in the Museum’s collection. The ideal candidate must be skilled with hand tools and creating archival storage solutions, highly organized, efficient, able to multi task, and possess excellent attention to detail.
Academy Museum of Motion Pictures
This position is in the Collections Management Department of the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures and reports to the Chief Registrar. This position will be essential in the museum’s collection inventory and assessment efforts as well as the daily handling, care and preservation of objects in the Museum’s collection. The ideal candidate must be skilled with hand tools and creating archival storage solutions, highly organized, efficient, able to multi task, and possess excellent attention to detail.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Assisting with the collection inventory and assessment process.
Improving and/or maintaining collection storage areas.
Creating appropriate housing and supports for collection material in storage and in transit.
Assisting with movement of collection material, including collection pickups and work at offsite facilities.
Assisting with preparing, packing and unpacking, installing and deinstalling objects.
Assisting with processing collection material and inventories.
Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
· Candidate is required to have a Bachelor's degree in history, studio art, art history, museum studies, or related field.
· Minimum three years of experience working with original collection material in a museum, library, or archives environment. Candidate should be experienced with storing, moving and packing museum artifacts to museum standards.
· Some knowledge of standard museum registration practices.
· Must have fine motor skills and experience with hand tools.
· Must be able to sit, walk, stand, climb stairs and ladders, and lift or push objects up to 50 pounds.
