Job Description – Digital Archive Assistant
Classification: Part time, temporary
Reports to: Registrar
Start date: 2-year contract beginning in December 2015
The Metal Museum in Memphis, TN seeks temporary assistance with a digitization project involving the slide archives of the Society of North American Goldsmiths (SNAG). The Digital Archive Assistant will work with the Registrar to upload images and metadata to a digital repository hosted through the American Craft Council’s Library Digital Collections database. Candidates must be available 15 hours per week sometime between 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday – Friday.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Prescribing metadata and managing content in the ACC's CONTENTdm digital repository
Complete and accurate data entry within a pre-defined format and style
Making use of controlled vocabulary resources to enter data into subject fields
Communicating regularly with the Registrar as to concerns, issues, and progress on tasks
Qualifications
Master's Degree in Art History, Museum Studies, Library and Information Sciences, or a related field
1 - 3 years previous metadata/meta-tagging experience, preferably within a museum or library environment
Knowledge of digital image files and formats
Preferred experience using controlled vocabularies and/or tagging in data creation
Careful attention to detail and strong organizational skills
