USC Pacific Asia Museum currently has a Collections Management Assistant position available in Pasadena, CA. This is a part-time, temporary position. For those who are interested, please apply via https://jobs.usc.edu/postings/59748 .
Position Purpose: To assist Collections Department staff in packing and rehousing permanent collection as well as updating object information in the collection database
Position Description:
This will be a temporary, part-time position focusing on packing and rehousing the permanent collection at USC Pacific Asia Museum. The permanent collection is consisted of more than 15,000 objects, and many objects will need to be properly packed, labeled and updated with their current information in the collection database. This position will report to the Assistant Curator and work closely with the Registrar and Museum Preparator.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
All tasks will be undertaken only after orientation training and under the supervision of the staff.
• Receive training in collection management system (CMS), Mimsy XG, and be able to run various reports and update object locations in the database after the training
• Properly pack and/or rehouse objects in archival materials including: lightly dust of the objects, label and cut customized foam cavity for each object, update object information in CMS, attach object label on the exterior of each new housing
• Safely transport objects between storage areas
• Track object location and update electronic records in CMS with new ‘home’ locations
Preferred:
A bachelor’s degree or currently enrolled undergraduates in the fields related to art, art history, museum studies or similar. We are looking for a candidate who is detail-oriented, has the ability to climb stairs and ladders and the ability to lift objects up to 30 lbs., and has a dexterity with fragile objects. Previous museum or gallery experience is required, experience in collection database, object handling, documentation and reporting is preferred.
