EXHIBITION REGISTRAR
Status: Permanent, Full Time
Travel: Required, Minimum 40%
Compensation: Salary + Full EDG Benefits
Job Summary:
The Exhibition Registrar is responsible for the quality care, secure movement, and successful management of EDG’s collection, comprised of the objects from the exhibitions managed by EDG. The Exhibition Registrar is expected to travel and be onsite at each installation and de-installation period (as permitted by the exhibition tour schedules) to oversee the handling and condition reporting of the objects. The Exhibition Registrar will work closely with the Tour Operations Manager and report to EDG’s Director of Tour Operations.

Responsibilities:
Cataloging and Administration


Establish registration system using EDG registration software; register and assign accession and catalogue numbers to all current and future objects in collection.
Maintains records, condition and location of objects in EDG’s collection.
Compose concise description of objects in collection database.
Receives, inspects, accessions, documents, labels and catalogs objects acquired for exhibitions; makes notes and/or comments on condition reports; oversees deaccession procedures in compliance with lender agreements.
Prepares lender agreements and arrangements for securing loans, including contractual arrangements, loan agreement forms, exhibition contracts, condition reports, facility reports, supplying photographs, cataloging information and other documents related to collections management.
Prepares and distributes reports for lenders.
Researches and provides accurate information to EDG Development and Tour Operations teams regarding loans, special collections, catalog information, packing, shipping and insurance; promotes compliance with federal, state and local laws related to art collections management.
Manages, prepares and/or reviews all contracts related to exhibition objects.

Tour Operations


Oversees handling, packing, movement and inspection of all objects entering or leaving a hosting venue.
Supports the shipping arrangements for the objects together with the Tour Operations team; inspects all objects and checks condition reports, making notes as needed at each installation and deinstallation; oversees and coordinates the packing, crating and couriering of objects; establishes the method of shipping for the objects.
Together with Director of Tour Operations, arranges for insurance of exhibition objects or recommends insurance coverage on parts of or entire collection. Maintains insurance coverage for the duration of exhibition tours, computing premiums and processing liability and damage claims.
Oversees the movement, storage and disposition of objects in order to guarantee security of the collection including coordination with conservators, preparators, designers, curators, photographers, and the Tour Operations team.
Works collaboratively with venue staff including other registrars, preparators, art handlers, and exhibits personnel, to schedule, coordinate and monitor the safe handling and successful installation and de-installation at each venue. Trains and supervises the work of venue personnel assigned to them during installation and deinstallation periods.
When necessary and as required, serves as a courier accompanying valuable objects in transit.
May prepare and manage special project budgets as required.
Serves as point of contact for hosting venues, as pertaining to exhibition objects and coordination for installing, maintaining and de-installing of the objects.
Prepares and distributes condition report books for exhibitions.

Exhibition Development


Support development of museum and service agreements, in particular consult on language regarding objects.
Review and advise on objects and check lists for projects in development.

RequirementsGeneral Requirements:


Experience with collections handling, exhibition installation/de-installation and shipping.
Demonstrated knowledge of art handling standards is required.
Experience working with diverse constituencies, including artists, collectors, designers, lenders, museum staff and the general public.
Meticulous work habits, exceptional organization and project management skills and strong attention to detail.
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Travel Requirements


Estimated 40-60% Travel, 40-60% Office and Administration Work

Qualifications:


Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Art, Art History or Museum Studies, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Completion of a graduate program is preferred.
5+ years work experience in the field of registration.
Management and budget experience required.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Ability to reach, bend, stoop and lift up to 50 lbs.
