The Kelsey Museum of Archaeology is an integral part of the College of Literature, Science and the Arts (LSA), which supports teaching and research on Classical, Egyptian, and Near Eastern archaeology through stewardship of its rich collections, an active exhibitions program, and sponsorship of ongoing field research. As an exhibit museum at a public university, the Kelsey Museum also embraces a vigorous public outreach mission, engaging with local residents and visitors of all ages, from kindergarten through retirement. The Museum receives approximately 25,000 visitors annually. Since the 1970’s, the display of the highlights of the permanent collection has been augmented by a regular program of special exhibitions, designed to illuminate certain aspects of the collection or to investigate particular themes. The Kelsey also hosts traveling exhibitions from other museums. There are currently three special exhibitions annually with additional curated highlights on and off site.
