Job Announcement: Exhibit Developer
Limited Term Employment Position – 12 to 18 months
Salary Range $25,000 to $30,000 per year – depending on qualifications/experience

The Santa Fe Trail Center Museum & Research Library, owned and operated by the Fort Larned Historical Society, is seeking an Exhibit Developer to complete an exhibit renovation project of the museum’s East Gallery. Working with an existing exhibit team the Exhibit Developer will conduct the research and development of interpretation, as well as oversee the building of exhibits related to commerce on the Santa Fe Trail, Plains Indians, trappers, early European explorers, and bison.

This is a 12 month limited term position that may be extended up to 18 months.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

· Conduct in depth research related to all phases of gallery renovation.
· Research, write, print, and mount engaging interpretive panels using text, graphics, images, and historical artifacts.
· Oversee the building three dimensional diorama style exhibits and create educational displays that highlight the museum’s collection of artifacts.
· Handle, mount, and display museum artifacts using best practices.
· Identify and obtain necessary copyright permission for images deemed important to interpretation.
· Create interactive exhibits for children ages 5 and up.

Qualifications:

· Minimum of a BA in History, American Studies or related field. A Master’s in Museum Studies or Public History is preferred.
· Experience developing and implementing exhibits.
· Excellent research, writing, and communication skills.
· Able to work well in a team setting.
· Proficient with Photoshop.
· Able to lift 30 lbs and comfortable climbing tall ladders.
