Collections Manager/Registrar
Cheekwood Botanical Garden & Museum of Art is seeking a Collection Manager/Registrar to oversee the registration and collections management of the Museum of Art Permanent Collection, loan collections, and exhibitions.



Responsible for managing the registration, accessioning and deaccessioning of objects in the Permanent Collection and Educational Collection with adherence to professional standards in accordance with Cheekwood’s Collection Management Policy; manages the Collections Management System and updates the database with new, complete records and object locations.

Manages all aspects of processing incoming and outgoing loans.

Maintains environmental monitoring equipment of Museum galleries and art storage spaces.

Plans and implements collection-wide inventory projects for both objects and records; tracks the location of every object in the Permanent Collection, Educational Collection and on-loan; and approves all object movements and housing arrangements.

Authors policies and forms for Permanent Collection care that adhere to best practices and AAM professional standards; manages and executes Permanent Collection conservation program according to professional standards.

Assists with the planning of temporary, long-term, and permanent exhibitions, including maintaining the installation calendar, reviewing contracts, and managing rights and reproductions for publications.

Manages the institutional, exhibition, and Cheek Family history archives and materials, including cataloguing new material, maintaining and updating the finding aids and exploring opportunities to increase access to the collection for scholars and the general public; responsible for incoming and outgoing information requests connected with the Permanent Collection, archives, temporary and extended loans (along with curatorial staff).

Supervises volunteers and interns associated with collections projects for the Museum of Art.


Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a MA in Museum Studies, or related field, or equivalent collections management/registrarial experience (minimum two years). Must have knowledge of museum registration methods, conservation procedures and legal & ethical museum standards. Familiarity with a diversity of objects and media and the proper handling and packing of these objects. Knowledge of collections management software (Embark), accuracy and attention to detail and excellent organizational skills. This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, position.
