Title: Museum Collections Manager
Where: Rogers Historical Museum a department of the City of Rogers, Arkansas
Full-time, Non-Exempt
Salary Range: 27,500-28,000 +benefits package
Reports to: Curator of Collections
Job Description: Responsible for performing under supervision duties relating to such functions of the Museum as collections management, research, or exhibits. Examples of such duties include cataloging museum collections, doing historical research, integrated pest management, inventory, or assisting with exhibit installation and dismantling. Assists in Museum planning and responds to inquiries and requests from the general public. Provides visitor services such as Hawkins House tours as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Essential Duties:
Assigns accession numbers, performs data entry, compiles accession records, classifies, and physical storage of artifacts
Maintains all accession and loan files, all collections logs, and other accession documentation
Conducts regular inventories of collections as outlined in the collections management policy
Performs historical research
Retrieves and prepares artifacts and artifact information for staff regarding collections elements for exhibit and programs and for historical researchers
Makes accession recommendations to director and curator of collections
Assists with exhibit installation and dismantling
Presents occasional programs on preservation for the public
Oversees the integrated pest management program
Provides visitor services such as Hawkins House tours as needed
Assists in Museum planning and responds to inquiries and requests from the general public
Requisites: Minimum: Graduation from college or university of recognized standing with major course work in American history, public history, museum studies, liberal arts, or related field, or 3-5 years equivalent related work experience, preferably in a history museum. Masters Degree in museum studies or public history preferred. Knowledge of collections management, exhibitions, and historical research. Knowledge of the purpose of museums and their role in the educational and cultural life of the community. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing. Computer literacy including ability to use word processing software and collections management software. Knowledge of PastPerfect preferred. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other employees, volunteers, and the public.
Other: Job includes a broad spectrum of work hours including Saturdays and occasional other weekend and evening hours. Some travel requirements including presentation of programs in schools or to civic groups. Valid driver’s license is a must.
