Conservation Technician(Part Time)

Description:
TheAcademy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’, Margaret Herrick Library isseeking a Conservation Technician to assist the Conservator with a variety ofconservation and preservation tasks. Qualified applicants will have a Bachelor’s Degree and at least two years of applied experience in the conservationof paper-based collections in a library/museum/archives setting or a privateconservation lab. The applicant should be well versed in acceptable handlingand storage practices for book and paper collections, be familiar withcondition reporting and building basic housings. The position reports tothe Conservator.
Dutiesand Responsibilities:
· Basicbook, paper and photograph conservation treatments with full documentation,under the supervision of the Conservator.
· Assistthe conservation staff with more complex conservation treatments.
· Fabricate/adaptspecialized storage housings for the collection.
· Abilityto read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenanceinstructions, and procedure manuals.
· Monitorthe Library environments; i.e. Integrated Pest Management and collecting datafor environmental logging equipment.
· Assistwith general lab duties and supplies maintenance.
· Otherduties as assigned.
PositionRequirements:
· Bachelor’sDegree and/or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
· Atleast two years of experience in library preservation or paper conservation.
· Aworking knowledge of accepted conservation standards, practices and terminologyand of proper use of conservation tools, equipment and supplies.
· Aptitudefor detailed hand work and superior manual dexterity.
· Abilityto work independently following instructions set by the Conservator andcomfortable interfacing regularly with other staff and interns.
· Strongcomputer skills, including experience with PC platform and databases.
· Strongtime management and organizational skills.
· Excellentinterpersonal and communication skills.
· Neatnessand ability to share workspace respectfully with other staff.
· Jobduties entail standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time withoccasional climbing, bending and kneeling.
· Capabilityto lift and/or move up to 50lbs
