Eastside Corporate Art Collection: Lead Art Preparator
Working for The Lumiere Group, the Lead Art Preparator coordinates and oversees art installation projects for our premiere corporate client. Working under the Logistics Manager and working closely with the Curatorial and Collections Departments, this confident and dynamic individual employs project management experience to oversee art handling projects and manage artwork transportation throughout the Puget Sound region. Serving as a liaison between artists, vendors, clients and facility managers, this position provides both onsite and field support. The ideal candidate will excel working as part of a tight-knit team, possess excellent communication skills and a professional demeanor, have experience managing exhibitions and project teams, and have a thorough knowledge of art handling, basic construction, and artwork transportation.

Primary Responsibilities:


Act as onsite project lead for installation/deinstallation projects involving internal team and external vendors, providing cost estimates and tracking actual costs
Meet with clients to determine scope of project, budget, and needs of art projects; educate clients and corporate employees on the importance of an art collection
Schedule necessary crew and materials based on project size and complexity
Conduct walkthroughs to confirm site readiness or assign task when unavailable
Offer technical expertise in consultation with clients regarding potential installations
Complete finish work for exhibitions/outdoor installations including leveling, cleaning, labeling, and signage
Manage local art transportation schedule
Manage exhibit furniture inventory, maintenance, and storage, using Excel and collection’s Content Management System
Manage inventory of art handling tools and materials
Work with Logistics Manager and Collections Department to prepare artwork for safe and proper transportation, installation, and storage
Consult with Curatorial and Collections Departments regarding limitations and potential issues with artwork acquisitions
Conduct periodic site visits for review of installed artwork, renovated spaces, and impact on safety of artwork and confirmation of condition for assurance of client satisfaction
Manage general cleaning and maintenance of the corporate art collection storage area, staging room, truck bay, and delivery vehicles
Meet with internal and external clients to determine scope of project, budget, and needs of art installations
Communicate project status to stakeholders and internal team, report and escalate to management, as needed


Additional Responsibilities:


Create and oversee monthly reports regarding status of ongoing projects
Attend weekly staff meetings and provide updates on active projects
Provide oversight to Logistics Assistant with regard to artwork cleaning and maintenance including management of scheduling, communicating budget information, and alerting Collections Department of damage or potential risks
Assist with incoming and outgoing shipments, including the preparation and packing of objects
Work as part of a tight-knit team, picking up additional responsibilities as time allows


Minimum Qualifications:


Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art, Art History, or related studies
Minimum of four years’ art handling experience, including but not limited to: commercial art handling companies, galleries, museums, high-volume studios, or private collection environments



Experience leading project crews and mentoring junior team members
Comfortable delegating tasks to other team members
Strong knowledge of established museum standards for packing, art handling, transportation, installation and storage techniques
Ability to assess artwork condition and make recommendations to Logistics and Collections Departments
Familiarity with artists and galleries in the Puget Sound region
Ability to excel in under constantly changing priorities and stressful working conditions
Comfortable interfacing with a variety of clients in all working conditions
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, uncompromising discretion, and a professional demeanor
Strong computer skills, especially with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), experience working with databases a plus
Proficiency with shop and hand tools, ideally in a production environment
Valid WA driver’s license and access to a vehicle in order to attend meetings and site visits
Clean driving record, experience with box trucks is a must
Strict compliance with DOT commercial driver requirements (CDL not required)
Proper Hours of Service record keeping, Daily Vehicle inspection logs, and an up to date DOT physical
Must be able to stand on feet for a minimum of two hours and be able to lift at least 75 lbs.
Comfortable working on ladders, and adhering to all safety procedures
Must pass full background check
Availability to work with the collection onsite Monday through Friday, occasional weekend and evenings for special projects
Maintain a full time (40 hours per week) work schedule
