Are you interested in working with museum collections? Do you have a passion for history? If so, this is the internship for you. The Kentucky Historical Society (KHS) is looking for an enthusiastic and motivated intern to work on an inventory project with the Historical Resources team.

This internship is open to both graduate and undergraduate students interested in museum collections management. The intern will gain broad hands-on experience in object handling, inventory, and digitizing collections.

The intern will participate in a comprehensive inventory project of the KHS collections. This internship will include object handling, creating digital records for an online database, photography and social media posts about the project.

The internship is available for those interested in class credit and those just seeking more experience in the museum field. The internship is a minimum of 150 hours but the exact timeframe and schedule will be mutually determined by the supervisor and the successful candidate.

Minimum requirements: Must be currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate level program working towards a degree in museum studies, public history, history or other related field. The candidate must have basic knowledge of computer databases, a passion for history and an interest in learning about collections management.

KHS is a state agency and membership organization that is fully accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. The KHS mission is to educate and engage the public through Kentucky’s history in order to confront the challenges of the future.
