The South Street Seaport Museum (SSSM) is seeking a couple of enthusiastic fall/winter intern(s) to work with the Collections department on various tasks and projects. The intern(s) will learn the fundamentals of stewardship, and best practices in collections management, both by assisting and shadowing the Collections Manager and Registrar and actively participating in departmental projects.
He or she will gain experience with the collections management system Collector Systems, learn the standards for proper object handling, and understand the importance of documenting and researching works of art. By attending weekly and monthly meetings, he or she will gain a solid understanding of how the Collections department functions within the museum as a whole.
