Smith College Museum of Art seeks an Assistant Preparator. Reporting to the Preparator, this position is responsible for exhibit preparation, matting, fabrication, and installation in addition to assisting and supporting the Preparator with the operation of the museum installation department.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Experience: Associates degree; Experience with construction, woodworking, painting, museum preparation, matting and framing. Some experience with computer systems and software as used in exhibitions and in the operation and maintenance of audio-visual and digital equipment strongly preferred. Ability to follow directions on multiple projects and use tools and materials effectively. Attention to detail and organization. Must be able to work independently and as a member of a team.
Physical Requirements: Ability to frequently and safely lift and carry materials up to 50 pounds; and work at heights over eight feet. Occasional physical effort such as pushing, pulling, bending, lifting and moving heavy objects (50 plus pounds).
