The Walters Art Museum seeks a full-time Assistant Registrar to support the registrar department’s loan, exhibition, collection and information management activities. This position reports to the Chief Registrar. Starting date is on or about January 30, 2017.
Responsibilities:


Supports outgoing collection loans by assisting with the creation of loan files, correspondence, and agreements; review of insurance coverage; expense tracking and borrower invoicing; crate orders; condition reports; shipping and courier arrangements
Upon occasion may serve as courier.
Assists with the management of long term loans: prepares loan contracts, certificates of insurance, and condition reports; arranges renewals; oversees packing, crating, and shipping.
Provides support for in-house and travelling exhibition projects by generating loan agreements; helping prepare indemnity and immunity from seizure applications, preparing courier packets, arranging hotel accommodating, assisting with condition photography and reports.
Supports collection management activities by assisting with collection inventories, location tracking, processing accessions and de-accessions; assisting with storage, re-housing and reinstallation projects; participating in photographic documentation of objects in storage.
Supports gallery installation projects by assisting with the preparation and management of checklists, tracking of requirements and object preparation, object location updates and inventory.
Supports information management activities by working on assigned data entry and cleanup projects.

Requirements:


B.A. degree with concentration in Art History or related field;
Minimum one year museum experience or experience in a related area.
Experience handling art and knowledge of basic registrar practices required; Good coordination and ability to safely handle a variety of works of art.
Knowledge of condition reporting, loan and exhibition and/or collection management preferred.
Word processing, budget spreadsheet, and collection database skills essential with knowledge of TMS preferred;
Some knowledge of digital photography, downloading and printing of digital images;
Must be precise, accurate, well-organized and detail-oriented.
Excellent time management and organizational skills, ability to manage multiple priorities;
Strong oral, written and interpersonal skills; ability to work as a team member as well as independently.
Ability to read major European languages desirable.
Must have valid driver’s license.
