DescriptionGENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITES & DUTIES:
The Manager for Exhibitions oversees the logistical planning, project development, installation and implementation of exhibitions at The Met 5th Avenue, The Met Breuer, and The Met Cloisters. This individual will lead a team of project managers who are responsible for managing exhibition budgets, developing project timelines, monitoring project development and working with key stakeholders to ensure successful implementations that come in on time and within budget. Working together with the Associate Director for Exhibitions, this position is a key driver for the overall success of the exhibitions program at The Met.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILIES & DUTIES:


Works closely with project managers and key stakeholders – including Curators, Conservators, Design, Buildings, and Registrars - to develop exhibition timelines, project plans and budgets; provides a museum-wide perspective to help prioritize exhibition projects and allow for proper resources allocation.

Manages complex logistics of multiple simultaneous exhibition projects, supervises work of all exhibition team members, and adjusts work schedules accordingly; applies advance knowledge of exhibition coordination and project management to planning and execution of concurrent projects.

Develops, manages, and mentors a team of project managers.

Identifies and manages relationships with institutional partners and co-organizers as well as venues for traveling exhibitions; negotiates with partner institutions on all tour arrangements including shared cost reconciliation; monitors work of outside consultants, including guest curators.

Assembles, manages, and reports on overall exhibition budgets, reviews and helps determine departmental budget implications.

Assigns and monitors tasks, enforces deadlines and manages exhibition progress, anticipates and troubleshoots issues, facilitates team collaboration and conflict resolution.

Schedules and leads project development and planning meetings for assigned projects and oversees those of project managers; communicates progress and next steps clearly and effectively.

Monitors all exhibition deliverables, working with the project managers to ensure projects are on track

Partners with Development in assessing funding needs and potential for exhibitions.

Utilizes expertise in project management and analysis to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and improve quality.

Provides professional expertise through leveraging knowledge and skills of large teams of professional staff.

Other duties as necessary.

Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects and coordinate high volume work
Ability to problem solve and prioritize needs and time
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively through all levels of the organization

Knowledge and Education


BA, preferably in art history or studio art
Minimum of six years of progressive experience in managing a high volume of complex international loan exhibitions, preferably working with a variety of media
Advance skills in budgeting, financial accounting, and analysis
Basic knowledge of art conservation, registration, and art handling
Experience reading construction drawings and plans
Advanced ability to address complex issues and resolve conflict
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills
Excellent computer skills, including Word, Excel, TMS, and Outlook
