Everson Museum of ArtJob Description – PreparatorReports to: RegistrarEmployment Category: Full-time, non-exemptSummary: The Everson Museum of Art is seeking applicants for a highly skilled Preparatorwith exhibition design experience. The successful candidate will be trained in best museum arthandling practices, have an eye for detail, be a creative problem-solver, and have the ability tomake the most from limited resources. Reporting to the Registrar, the Preparator works closelywith the Museum’s Collections staff and Facilities staff. The Preparator is an important teammember, responsible for the well-being of the Museum’s collection and for ensuring a highcaliber museum experience.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:• Prepare objects for display and storage, including designing and fabricating object mounts aswell as matting and framing two-dimensional works as necessary• Work closely with Curator and Registrar on all aspects of exhibition development, planning,and installation• Work with Curator and Registrar to problem-solve exhibition display possibilities, mounts,object security, packing, and storage• Design, plan, and fabricate exhibition furniture and walls as needed• Light exhibitions• Manage and monitor the condition and appearance of exhibition installations and permanentcollection galleries• Work with the Registrar to implement appropriate art handling procedures to ensure the safetyof artwork and successful installations• Assist the Registrar in general maintenance of the collection and art storage facilities,including conducting inventories• Assist with preventative conservation to the collection as necessary• Work with the Registrar on the coordination and packing of outgoing loans (build crates,retro-fit crates, soft-packing, etc. as needed)• Keep up to date on new technologies, tools, and archival materials• Keep track of all supplies and order replenishments as needed (this includes standard archivalmaterials that must be on hand at all times as well as special materials needed for exhibitions orspecific objects)Qualifications:• Bachelor's degree or equivalent and 3 – 5 years of art handling experience• Significant experience with and understanding of best museum practices in art handling and installation• Must have strong carpentry skills• Knowledge of museum lighting• Exhibition design and experience using Sketchup or other digital design program is desired• Significant experience with Audio/Visual installation is desired• Basic computer office skills; proficient with Microsoft Office Suite• Effective communicator to a wide variety of individuals via email, phone, and in person• Experience with project management, managing others, and working collaboratively with in- house staff as well as contractorsFor optimal consideration, please submit resume and cover letter by March 17, 2017.Submit a letter of application, resume, and references to everson@everson.org.
