DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Art Preparator assists staff and outside researchers requiring access to works in the Museum’s Fine Art Collection. They are also responsible for assisting in the receipt and installation of special exhibitions, including projects organized in-house as well as those contracted from other institutions.


Oversee all aspects of handling and movement of all artwork within the building.
Oversee and work with art handlers and temporary handlers when working on projects.
Responsible for the safe and proper display objects.
Responsible for moving, packing, unpacking, receiving and releasing objects from the Fine Art Collection.
Assist in the physical organization and maintenance of the Museum in partnership with the Buildings and Grounds and Curatorial teams.
Accompany, as courier, and install Permanent Collection objects at other museums when appropriate.
Transport, often with team, items from the Museum to the off-site storage facility.
Participate in opportunities to advance personal and professional growth.
Facilitate internal communication by participating in team meetings and by sharing knowledge, skills and experience with co-workers.
Be innovative. Seek opportunities to increase productivity and efficiency, while enhancing the financial viability of the organization.
Use good time management techniques.
Use good judgment to make decisions.
Other duties as assigned



RequirementsREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong team player.
Ability to assist outside contractors and visiting artists, curators, and conservators
Highly organized with strong time management techniques and attention to detail
Experience in artwork hanging/mounting methods
General knowledge of tools and equipment
Previous experience with tracking, rigging and crating a plus
Good judgment and decision making skills
Excellent communication skills.
Results-driven, energetic, and dedicated to task
Must be available to work evenings, weekends and overtime and emergency on-call basis
Willingness to drive during off-site transports

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE


Ideally, two years plus experience in a museum/gallery setting.
Impeccable art installation and art handling skills.
Applicable experience in the preparation of art objects for exhibition and loan.
Ability to use varied hand tools; knowledge of art processes and materials.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Software (calendar, task module, email organization)
