Collections Manager – Aiken County Historical Museum
Aiken, South Carolina


- This position is responsible for the management, care, research and documentation of all collection and loaned artifacts held at the Museum. The Museum's collection numbers over 8,000 objects including an archive and library. This may require retroactive research to establish provenance and accurate identity, including past owners, dates, history, etc. Applicant's should ideally have experience managing a collection housed in an historic building with limited storage and minimal environmental control.
- The position works closely with the Site and Events Manager to monitor conditions such as lighting, placement, and object security. The CM is responsible for ensuring donations fit the mission of the Museum, and that it has the resources to take appropriate care of them. The CM also ensures the Museum has a legal right to have the artifacts and is knowledgeable on legal and ethical issues as they pertain to museums.
- This position will advise the Director on required policy changes, and offer such drafted new policies for review and approval as needed.
- The CM must operate independently with limited supervision.


Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Museum Studies or an equivalent field; Master’s preferred. Supplemented by one to two years of experience in museum collection management.


Salary range starts at $37,900.
