Intern Position Description: Paleontology Collections Management InternSummary: The intern will assist with all aspects of collections management including the documentation,management, movement, and care of the Carter Bog paleontology collection and loans.Responsibilities: • Re-processing the Carter Bog specimens: including researching, photographing, marking,cataloging, preventative care, re-housing, and storing• Assist with PastPerfect record data entry for all specimens in collection• Assist with unpacking, packing, and shipping of loaned specimens• Assist in implementing best practices in collection storage areas• Record reconciliation and reorganization• Assist in public research requests, donor/vendor relations, and newsletter articles• Assist with social media publications of collections including Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube• Other duties as needed including clerical and maintenance dutiesSkills Required: • Education Experience: Currently enrolled in or recently completed an accredited museumstudies, public history, history, geology, paleontology, archaeology, or other related program.Familiarity with registration methods, museum collections management, and artifact handlingpractices required. Ability to work with paleontological research collections. Prior experiencewith artifact care preferred.• Language Skills: Ability to learn and communicate by written and oral instructions.• Technical Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel are required.Familiarity with PastPerfect (or other collections management database experience), Adobepreferred.• Reasoning Ability: Requires ability to research the history and provenance of permanentcollection objects and objects on loan and make reasoned judgments about management andcare of those objects.Time Commitment: Ability to work 150 to 300 hour commitment (for non–paid internship); Shift is 10 a.m. to 4p.m.; M-F varies.Work Environment: Work is performed in an office environment.Physical Demands: Some lifting may be required.Training: Training provided.Notes: At least 18 years old.Application Process: Please contact Liz Fisher, Registrar, by email (LFisher@BoonshoftMuseum.org) and include aresume and statement of interest.
