OVERVIEW: The Special Exhibits Project Manager is responsible for managing the installation of special exhibitions including coordinating design, production, marketing, communications, educational programs, interpretation and sponsorship for The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, Inc. The incumbent works closely with internal teams to ensure quality standards are adhered to consistently. He/she coordinates other small exhibit and related projects, as assigned. The Manager ensures that internal processes are adhered to and moving efficiently by monitoring and assisting with the transitions between design, development, production, and scheduling for experiences and exhibits. ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:


Oversees the installation of special and temporary exhibitions, including minor art exhibitions, temporary exhibitions in permanent galleries, peripheral experiences, large-scale exhibitions in temporary galleries.
Coordinates and project manages the negotiation of exhibition contracts through appropriate museum departments and staff.Serves as liaison between museum and lending institution(s).
Project manages exhibit teams as applicable for in-house special and temporary exhibits.Schedules and leads special and temporary exhibit project meetings with representatives across museum departments to coordinate development, design, production, marketing, educational program plan, and sponsorship efforts.
Sets exhibition installation time-lines, manages deadlines, and sends out monthly reports. Develops, administers, and reports on monthly project and program budgets. Stays on time and on-budget for projects.
Works with colleagues in design and production to produce gallery augmentation including label copy, facade treatments, program signage, and any other environmental elements.
Works in concert with colleagues across the division to assure appropriate content, augmentation, and educational programs are produced.
Partners with development and fund raising efforts to provide information on exhibit plans and projects to potential sponsors.Assists with fulfillment of sponsor benefits and recognition.
Works with coworkers across the organization to ensure that special requirements and approval processes are followed. Ensures that related intellectual property licenses are observed through partnerships associated with special and temporary exhibits.
Works with communications, marketing and design to make certain that exhibitions are accurately promoted with cohesive messages and graphics. Assists with exhibit public relations, as needed.



RequirementsREQUIREMENTS:


A bachelor’s degree in education, communication, business administration or museum studies.
Five years (5) operational experience in museum exhibitions; two (2) years project oversight and/or project management.
Knowledge of and experience with informal learning environments and styles, including extensive work instructing and developing experiences for both children and adults.
Excellent managerial skills to coordinate meetings, administer budgets and plan for future exhibitions and projects.
The ability to envision future ideas and create strategies for implementation that incorporate the museum’s mission and values.
Excellent problem solving skills and flexibility to deal with constantly changing situations that arise with project management.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to negotiate with museum staff, work effectively with teams, write exhibition plans and disseminate information.
Proven experience with adeptly moving project(s) from conception to completion, on-time and on-budget.
The demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a diverse work environment.Must be able to impart diplomacy and professionalism in all situations.
Exceptional organizational skills to deliver a first-rate experience to our visitors through appropriate materials, clear exhibit goals, clean environments and effective professional interactions with others.

ADA REQUIREMENTS:


Must be able to read floor plans, review exhibit conceptual documents, and view exhibit design plans.
Must be able to verbally lead team meetings and hear responses from team members. Must take oral feedback and incorporate into plans. Must be able to gather visitor and focus group feedback.
Must have dexterity to utilize a keyboard to draft and review documents and manipulate exhibit elements. Must be able to navigate conventional local, regional, national and international ground and air travel. Requires ability to stand for long periods of time while traversing and viewing exhibitions and sites.
Must be able to lift up to 40lbs, kneel, sit, or stand and tolerate dust in the environment.
