Job Description
Los Angeles based fine art publisher is seeking a multi-skilled person who will act as Art Preparator, responsible for art handling, packing and shipping fine art prints and sculpture, as well as managing a large inventory of prints, on- and off-site. Must have experience handling fine art prints and/or works on paper. The successful applicant will demonstrate strong attention to detail, good organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task.
Responsibilities:
Shipping and packing of fine art
Coordinate delivery with fine art shippers, including gathering quotes, shipper selection, and crating
Framing, understanding frame specifications, managing framing orders
Inspection of artwork for condition checks
Identification and coordination of art conservation needs
Ordering supplies for packing materials
Record keeping and filing
Gallery installations
Help organize and maintain the warehouses – art storage and files
Assist with storage and transportation of prints and sculpture at off-site warehouses, and conservators
Some heavy lifting
Help track inventory
Help prepare and coordinate shipping for art fairs
Driving company van for art movement to warehouses when needed
Required Experience and Skills:
Three years minimum experience packing and shipping works on paper, with demonstrated expertise in paper handling
Fine art paper knowledge, with experience in thoughtful and safe handling of artworks of various sizes, weights and properties
Inspection of fine art prints / works on paper
Meet deadlines while working independently and with a team on multiple concurrent projects
Current California driver’s license
Strong experience with Microsoft Office software
Desired Skills:
Printmaking knowledge and experience
Familiarity with conservation of works on paper / fine art prints
Familiarity with Art Systems or other art management software
Familiarity with Filemaker Pro
