The Adirondack Experience (ADKX) in Blue Mountain Lake, founded in 1957, is one of the premier cultural institutions in upstate New York and is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums. ADKX’s 65,000 square feet of exhibitions are dedicated to telling the story of one of America’s most unique regions. During the 2017 season ADKX opened one of the most exciting new exhibitions in its history: a 19,000-square-foot interactive experience titled “Life in the Adirondacks”. The new exhibition combines our collections and the latest digital technology with hands-on experiences. The year-round staff includes 36 employees with an additional 60+ seasonal employees added during the open season May – October. The operating budget is approximately $5M. Job Description
ADKX seeks a creative, highly motivated individual with strong organizational skills, professional demeanor and great attention to detail to work with the Collections Department. Under the direction and supervision of the Chief Curator, this position performs responsibilities related to the documentation, care, and preservation of the museum collection and is responsible for working with staff to install and maintain collection items on exhibit. This position is primarily responsible for the intellectual control of the permanent collection. The Registrar may participate on museum development teams for all visitor experiences as assigned. This position offers a competitive salary and excellent benefits.
RequirementsCandidates must have thorough knowledge of American history and museum practices. A master’s degree in museum studies is preferred and 2-3 years’ experience in museum work is required. Candidate must have strong administrative, verbal and written communications skills and have the ability to articulate the mission of the institution. The individual must have the ability to manage time efficiently, work on multiple, simultaneous projects and deadlines with the ability to work under pressure.
