THE ROLE:
Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, the essential function of this position is to provide operational oversight of ARTEX’s Boston facility. Role responsibilities include supervision of the transportation, warehousing, storage, crating and inventory services to ensure achievement of established operational and business plans, sales targets and financial results.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operations
Contributes to the formulation of Artex's local and regional-level operational strategies and business plans. In turn, translates key corporate strategic objectives, and associated initiatives and targets down to the facility level by defining relevant operations and financial performance criteria and ensuring appropriate allocation of resources are realized.
Financial Management
Responsible for meeting revenue and profitability objectives through the management of operations in order to maximize productivity and effectiveness. Develops and manages the facility's operational budget as derived from the company's overall operational budget, analyzing variances and initiating corrective measures to maintain profitability goals. Ensures the Boston facility's cost of operations are in line with approved budgetary guidelines.
Human Resources
Directly supervises 15-20 employees. Identifies staffing requirements and oversees the development of employees relative to business needs; aligning the planning, assigning, and direction of work. Defines clear performance expectations in support of driving positive business results and job satisfaction, employee retention and employee engagement levels. Manages, and evaluates employee performance against established objectives; coaches and assists the department managers to optimize their respective team performance.
Sales:
Works closely with the sales team to ensure “pre and post sales” customer requirements are met, and profitability targets are realized. Supports the building and maintaining of relationships with key and prospective accounts through delivery of excellent client service and proactively resolves any obstacles that can compromise service delivery; maximizing revenue and profitability.
Transportation/Fleet
Oversees activities related to dispatching, routing, and tracking of local transportation services to optimize capacity. Working closely with the dispatch team ensures that effective fleet management is achieved by reducing downtime and managing maintenance costs.
CANDIDATE PROFILE:
The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree in a directly related discipline required,
EXPERIENCE:
6-8 years’ experience in an operational role; working for a museum, gallery or fine arts services company a plus
3-5 years or more of progressive supervisory/management responsibility with demonstrated experience in leading and developing teams
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with management through a pro-active customer focused approach, responding to the operating and bottom-line needs of the business
Three to four years of profit center responsibility
COMPETENCIES AND ATTRIBUTES:
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence people at all levels of the organization
Superior client service skills: Demonstrated ability to plan and organize work to meet schedules and timelines in an environment with constantly changing priorities
Performs effectively with a very high degree of autonomy, visibility and accountability, yet must be equally effective as a senior management team-player and possesses excellent planning and organizational abilities
Working knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) and FileMaker preferred
COMPENSATION:
The compensation package will be commensurate with education, skills and experience.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Incumbent in this position works in an office area, visits customer sites, as well as, multiple Artex facilities. Work is mostly sedentary with intermittent movement throughout work hours. Movement may include walking, bending, lifting, and standing and may occur in offices, warehouses, or similar areas.
