Job Announcement: Database Administrator, TMS

The Smithsonian National Museum of African Art is seeking to fill the position of Database Administrator for Gallery Systems' The Museum System (TMS). The incumbent of this position is responsible for the overall management, application administration, training and support of the Collections Information System and its associated products (TMS, eMuseum and Conservation Studio).

The incumbent will carry out a host of duties including:
- Responsible for the overall management of the Collections Information System, including application administration and support. Evaluates, plans, coordinates, and implements activities necessary to the effective operation and maintenance of TMS, eMuseum, and Conservation Studio. Evaluates and determines alternatives and initiates corrective action.
- Manages standards of collections information entered into TMS. Assists in the revision of existing data entry standards and the redevelopment of museum authority standards for content. Assesses external authority standards for relevance and recommends enhancements to the NMAfA TMS database.
- Administers NMAfA's Collections site through eMuseum. Acts as lead to increase public accessibility to the collection by expanding the breadth of data and the number of publicly accessible records. Works with Educators, Curators and others to tailor the site as possible to increase the audience.
- Trains museum staff in TMS through individual instruction or classroom sessions. Regularly seeks feedback from staff to help in planning training that meets their needs. Confers with users to identify, determine and resolve their TMS needs.

The position is located in the National Museum of African Art (NMAfA), Office of the Registrar. The museum is dedicated and devoted to the collection, conservation, study and exhibition of Africa's arts across time period, geography and medium. Our mission is to inspire conversations about the beauty, power, and diversity of African arts and cultures worldwide. The primary worksite is located on the National Mall, the DBA will be part of an energetic team devoted to managing, cataloguing, and increasing the public accessibility of the art collection. The position pays $56,233 to $73,105 per year (with promotion potential) and is a full-time, permanent, Federal position. Applications are accepted through March 5.
