The Norton Museum of Art, located in West Palm Beach, Florida, is seeking an experienced Registrar to complement the Senior Registrar in anticipation of the Museum’s February 2019 opening of renovated and expanded galleries designed by Foster + Partners. This full time, exempt position will report to the Director of Curatorial Affairs. Once the Museum opens, the responsibilities of this position will include typical administrative and collection responsibilities such as collection care, condition reports, arranging loans and fine art shipping and rights and reproductions of the collection following best practices in the field.
The Norton collection comprises @ 4000 photographs, @1500 works on paper, @ 700 Chinese jades, bronzes, ceramics and paintings, and @ 800 Western paintings and sculpture. In the absence of conservators on staff, the Registrar will work closely with colleagues to insure best practices for handling, installation, movement and storage of all art.
Responsibilities:
The Registrar will create condition reports for acquisitions.
Maintain the efficient organization of collection storage.
Input documentation (and enhance information) on our database (TMS) for the collection.
Coordinate photographic documentation of the collection and oversee all aspects of requests for Rights and Reproduction of the collection.
Will assist with loan exhibitions and managing circulating projects as needed.
The Registrar must demonstrate a collaborative attitude and have strong organization skills, be pro-active and able to prioritize and work efficiently to meet deadlines. A professional and flexible approach, strong communication and writing skills and collegial disposition essential to working with Norton staff, benefactors, peers and vendors.
RequirementsRequirements:
Candidates must have a BA (in Art, Art History or Museum Studies) with a minimum of 5 years’ experience (or relevant combination of education and experience) at an institution with a permanent collection. Must be proficient in TMS (The Museum System) and Microsoft Outlook.
