Contract Registrar Job Description
Position Title: Project Manager for Collections Move (Reports to Registration)

Term: 40hrs / week for six months beginning June 2018 and ending November 2018

Description:
Mingei International Museum located in Balboa Park, San Diego is undertaking a museum-wide renovation project and move of the Permanent Collection of over 26,000 objects. The Museum is seeking an experienced Registrar to manage the day-to-day logistics of packing and moving the Collection. Working closely with Museum staff and a professional art packing company, this individual will supervise and manage a team of art handlers to ensure the safety of objects and track objects as they are packed and moved off-site.

Duties:

- Prepare move lists, track movement of objects

- Ensure objects are packed properly

- Coordinate shipments from the museum to offsite storage

- Supervise art handlers, interns, volunteers

- Assist with other registration duties as assigned
Knowledge, skills, and abilities required:

- Extensive knowledge of museum Registration and best practices for handling and tracking objects as set forth by the American Alliance of Museums

- Previous experience with Collection moves, strongly preferred

- Strong work ethic that includes a commitment to confidentiality

- Ability to work within tight deadlines and to prioritize
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to climb ladders, squat, kneel, and lift up to 25 pounds
- Previous experience with Collections Management databases; EmbARK preferred
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office and other collaborative computer programs such as AirTable, Slack, or Trello
