Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)
• Research collections management policies and implement procedures
• Assist in the care and organization of collection storage areas. Determine object storage locations. In conjunction with the Museum Director and Chief Curator, evaluate and suggest improvements to collections standards and policies
• Consult conservators for approval and recommendations on exhibiting objects in conjunction with the collections manager/registrar
• Arrange for conservation for both loans and permanent collection objects in conjunction with the collections manager/registrar
• Consult Museum Director and Chief Curator to determine framing or mounting needs
• Assists curatorial team and registrars in the planning, preparation, design, installation, and de-installation of collections objects or works on loan for museum exhibitions or storage in keeping with AAM, AAMD and museum industry standards / preventative conservation standards.
• Manages the scheduling of exhibition production; supervises installation/ disassembly crew. Coordinates with curatorial staff for timely installation of exhibitions.
• Designs and fabricates display materials: pedestals, plinths, temporary walls, mounts, crates, etc. as required in keeping with museum standard best practices/contractual requirements. Oversees movement and placement of pedestals and plexiglass vitrines used in installations, painting of vitrines and polishing of glass as needed and when appropriate.
• Packs, moves, and maintains collections in keeping with best practices / industry standard and in conjunction with the registrars, researches and implements storage and display methods to and from the museum and between offsite locations.
• Responsible for the preparation of the exhibition spaces i.e. the painting of gallery walls or supervision of the painting of gallery walls, designs and produces labels, texts panels and other exhibition signage. Produces digital exhibition layouts.
• Oversees / performs lighting of exhibitions and storage in keeping with contractual requirements/ current best practices.
• Maintains appropriate collection, crate and pedestal documentation as required, both digital and manual.
• Observes and reports when necessary on the condition of elements within the Museum and storage facilities including temperature, humidity and the security of the works of art at all times.

• Works closely with the registrars to oversee the safety and movement of all artwork entering and leaving the facility.
• Assists/ coordinates with and oversees museum staff during the delivery and pick up of exhibitions and various supplies.
• Maintains and makes certain digital media / video equipment is on/off in museum exhibitions and storage as needed.
• Operates a forklift for installation of large scale objects, preparation for transport and storage of objects and materials as needed.
• Projects budgeting needs for future exhibitions, storage and maintenance costs.
• Purchases necessary equipment and tools used for exhibitions, storage and maintenance of collections.
• Oversees temporary labor at museum and at offsite storage facilities as necessary.
• Work effectively with all Artis—Naples employees


Requirements
Education/Experience
• Bachelor’s degree
• At least 3 years proven experience in a museum setting, 5 years preferred.
Skills & Abilities
• Knowledge of art handling, art storage and display methods, installation techniques and procedures.
• Principles and practices of museum exhibit and display design, construction and finishing, alterations and repairs
• Exhibition scheduling and coordination techniques
• Budget and fiscal management processes and procedures
• Effectively communicate with others in producing desired exhibitions
• Maintain effective supervisory relationships
• Crate fabrication and object packing
• Carpentry and metal fabrication
• Current Forklift certification
• Knowledge of art/museum security systems and procedures.
• Working knowledge of hand and power tools
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite required, knowledge of TMS (The Museum System database by Gallery Systems) and AutoCAD preferred.
