The J. Paul Getty Museum seeks a Woodworker to under general supervision and reporting to the Lead Preparator of Fabrication and the Head of the Preparation department at the Getty Center. The Woodworker applies special skill to the design and fabrication of metal, plastic and wood projects, designs and fabricates wood display furniture and objects for the Museum and for other Trust operating programs. The successful candidate will have: 5+ years of custom machining and woodworking experience, experience in a production workshop and superior skills in design, project planning and fabrication together with basic skills in supervision and budgeting; familiarity with industrial, hi-tech materials and advanced fabrication techniques; and knowledge of sources for specialized hardware and tooling.

Principal duties and responsibilities include: designs and fabricates wood projects to specification; works closely with preparators, other Museum departments, other Trust operating programs, outside consultants, and vendors on fabrication projects; meets regularly with supervisors to establish priorities for fabrication projects and to set up fabrication schedules and maintain inventory of tools, equipment and supplies; responsible for researching and ordering materials for projects, woodworking shop supplies and equipment; sets up and maintains woodshop tools and machinery and ensures work area is organized and neat; oversees and implements woodworking shop safety policies and procedures; trains staff in conjunction with Risk Management to maintain workshop safety; assists in the development of annual woodshop operating expenses and capital projects budget.

The work involves the use of tools and machinery which must be handled with caution. The woodshop employees are at times exposed to the noise, dust, and fumes arising from construction.

Qualifications:
* High School Diploma / GED with certification from a technical/trade school desirable * 5+ years custom machining or woodworking experience * Proficient in hand and machine tool operations plus CAD * Manual dexterity, physical strength, and physical coordination along with the ability to stand for long periods of time and lift objects weighing up to 80 pounds on a daily basis required
