Aanischaaukamikw is the cultural centre forthe ten Cree communities of Eeyou Istchee in Northern Quebec. This major newfacility is located in Oujé-Bougoumou, QC, a community of 700 persons. Aanischaaukamikw is a multi-purpose culturalentity, bringing together regional cultural programming for the Cree Nation forall to share on-site and throughout the communities. Aanischaaukamikw is presently seeking a:Collections Registrar
Aanischaaukamikw Cree CulturalInstitute is seeking an experienced and energetic registrar who will help carefor and make accessible our unique collection of Cree material culture,archives and library material focused on the Eeyou Istchee region. The incumbent would assist in the departmentof Collections and Exhibits with registration and exhibition activities for the permanent collections,new acquisitions and loans; assist in with the physical preservation and care ofcollections, as well as in developing and maintaining departmental proceduresand documentation standards for collections information systems. The registrar reportsto the Coordinator of Collections & Exhibits, carries out theresponsibilities below in close coordination with the entire Collections &Exhibits team, and collaborates across the institution to ensure the stabilityand accessibility of ACCI’s holdings.

QUALIFICATIONS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE

· Trainingin a museum studies (or equivalent experience) in museum registration orcollections management

· Minimumthree years work experience in museum registration or collections management

· Interestin Cree material culture, traditions, history and society

· Knowledgeof aspects of museum collections management, documentation, and preservationstandards, collections related policies, and procedures

· Experienceusing collections management databases

· Commitment todecolonization and reconciliation principles

· Abilityto lift up to 40 pounds, climb ladder, use basic power tools

· Currentdriver’s license

· Current Possession andacquisition license for firearms (or willing to get license).

· Abilityto solve problems independently and creatively

· Excellentoral and written communication skills

· Abilityto work within a collaborative, fast-paced environment, with multiple projectsand deadlines

· Strongattention to detail and capable of following complex procedures

· Solidwork ethic, enthusiasm, and a sense of humor

· Flexibilityof working hours required to meet deadlines and for travel

· Fluentin Cree (desirable); English (essential); French (desirable)

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

· Actsas Chair of ACCI Acquisitions Committee, tracks all new acquisition proposalsas outlined in the ACCI Acquisitions Policy and prepares Annual Board reportsfor new acquisitions and loans.

· Hasoverall responsibility for maintaining the accurate legal status and insurancerequirements for all ACCI collections (museum, library and archives).

· Hasoverall responsibility for maintaining an accurate inventory for the museumcollection including the gun registry.

· Mustbe present for inspections for representatives from gun control bureau.

· Responsiblefor cataloging and maintaining all museum collection records (manual andelectronic).

· Responsiblefor generating incoming/outgoing loan agreements; documentation for temporaryexhibitions, travelling exhibitions, receipts, object checklists, object conditionreports, object labels; obtains and prepares cost estimates and coordinatesobject packing, crating, shipping and transport schedules.

· Responsiblefor overseeing and training for art handling and condition inspection of allobjects entering or leaving the premises, and verification of object locations.

· Responsiblefor compiling and entering accurate museum collection data into the collectionmanagement database; creates, maintains and updates museum object and sourcefolders; procures and generates collection object reports, letters, andprofessional correspondence.

· Engagesin departmental planning, development and implementation of professionalregistration guidelines, policy, procedures, protocol and practices.

· Assistswith the full range of routine collections management activities, including butnot limited to processing, regular inventory audits, storage housing, locationtracking, packing and transport, IPM, environmental monitoring, conditionreporting, both in storage and exhibition spaces.

· Assistswith revision of collections management policies and procedures; participatesin organization-wide emergency management planning.

· Participatesin exhibition preparation (object selection, text drafting), installationand/or de-installation for permanent and temporary exhibitions; including mountmaking and physical display preparation as required.

· Assistswith coordinating appropriate staff to ensure security of the object collectionwhile on exhibition display or in storage.

· Facilitatesinquiries regarding the object collection; coordinates supervision and providesaccess to the object collection and related documentation to ACCI staff, ourEeyou Istchee communities, students, visitors, and the general public.

· Participatesin the grant funded projects.

· Assistswith working group on thesauri, authority control, digital asset management andother museum committees.

· Assistswith provision of online access to selected records in the collection database;coordinates photographic requirements to organize existing and new objectcollection images for the digital assets management system.

· Supervisesand assists with the training of temporary staff, interns, volunteers, andstudents.

· Trainsstaff and other users in the use of the database and cataloguing.

· Participatesin museum-wide projects and events as needed.

· Performsother related duties and special projects, as required.

SALARY ANDWORKING CONDITIONS

· 6 month contract

· 35 hours per week

· Annual salary and benefits are based on ACCIsalary scale relevant experience and education (starting salary approximately$45 000 plus special allowance per year)
