The Morris Center for Lowcountry Heritage seeks a highly organized Exhibit and Programs Director to join the Center’s outstanding team. The museum offers a wide variety of public and educational programs for all ages. In fall of 2018 the museum will open its newly renovated special event facility which will provide space for the Museum’s growing events and programs. The Center is located in downtown Ridgeland in the historic Sinclair Service Station building. We are looking for someone to join our fun and creative team during this exciting period of growth.
The Exhibitions and Programs Director is responsible for the coordination of museum special exhibitions and any installation changes within the museum’s galleries. The Exhibitions and Programs Director will be in charge of the exhibition-making process from development and design to building and installation, monitors the display throughout the run of an exhibition to determine if maintenance is necessary (on AV equipment, labels, etc.), and de-installation. The Exhibitions and Programs Director will also coordinate all museum-related special events, public programming, and academic initiatives, and creates and distributes museum-related press, marketing, and promotional materials.


RequirementsEssential Duties and Functions:
This position will manage the temporary and permanent exhibition projects and supports the administrative needs of the museum’s exhibition and public programs.


Work closely with the Executive Director to develop and design exhibitions on time and within assigned budget.
Monitor exhibition-making process from conception to installation and de-installation; prepare exhibition checklists; generate and maintain schedules and timelines.
Oversee production of signage and other graphic elements of the exhibitions.
Design, copy-edit and produce interpretive and promotional material including newsletters, brochures, educational guides, press releases, and web content for the museum website. Manage museum mailing list.
Working closely with the Museum Director to handle contracts, vendors, and accounts/payments related to exhibitions; collect samples and handle exhibition supplies.
Support museum team meetings by creating agendas and meeting materials, taking minutes, preparing PowerPoint presentations, and other tasks as needed.
Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the organization’s programs and services.
Ensure that the programs and services offered by the organization contribute to the organization’s mission and reflect the priorities of the Advisory Board & Trustee.
Monitor program activities on a regular basis and conduct an annual evaluation according to program(s) evaluation framework and report evaluation findings to the Advisory Board and recommend changes to enhance the programs as appropriate.
Communicate with donors, community groups, funders, and other organizations to keep them informed of the work of the organization and to identify changes in the community served by the organization.
Assist with long-term projects, such as creating new manuals, organizing existing materials, and establishing protocols for archiving exhibitions.
Assist with planning and implementing museum public programs and events. Collaborate with the Executive Director; track event budgets; manage guest lists, design and send invitations, process RSVPs, and answer public inquiries.
Book travel and assist the Director with arranging accommodations for public program speakers, facilitate honoraria payments and reimbursements, and serve as the point person for visitors.
Provide administrative support to Executive Director as necessary.

Interact with all ages of gallery visitors and give scheduled impromptu and planned gallery talks and tours.

Salary


Hiring range is $40,000 - $45,000 per year with a commitment to increase salary as milestones are met. Job Type: Full-time
