South Dakota Art Museum is offering an exciting career opportunity as a Collections Coordinator. We are looking for a creative and innovative professional to join us at the South Dakota Art Museum. This is a 12 month, full-time, benefit-eligible position. This position is supervised by the Museum Director. RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position develops, reviews, and implements the South Dakota Art Museum collections management program, policies and procedures, and insures that American Alliance of Museums “Best Practices” standards are met.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Museum Studies, Art History, Arts and Administration, Studio Arts, Conservation or related field by date of application;
Minimum of three years museum collections experience;
Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences;
Excellent oral and written communication skills;
Demonstrated organizational and time management skills;
Strong interpersonal skills;
Ability to work as a contributing team member;
Demonstrated use of technology in managing a collections database;
Demonstrated ability or potential to oversee and determine needs, plans, and processes to successfully meet the AAM Collections Stewardship “best practices;
Valid driver’s license, or ability to obtain one within 30 days of hire, and willingness to travel;
Ability to lift 40lbs. and climb a step ladder.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree in Museum Studies, Public Policy, or a related field;
Demonstrated experience with museum collections database operations, experience with implementing professional standards and procedures involved with art loans and exhibitions (incoming and outgoing) and related activities with collections oversight;
Ability to research and write grants;
Demonstrated leadership in developing or leading students, interns, faculty and volunteers to facilitate collection projects;
Demonstrated ability to monitor environmental conditions in storage and exhibits. Oversee detailed record keeping of object movement, condition and shipping;
Demonstrated ability to staying current on methods, materials and trends in the museum industry.
SALARY:
Commensurate with qualifications.
