Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute is a fine arts center serving diverse audiences through three program divisions - Museum of Art, Performing Arts, and School of Art. MWPAI’s mission is to serve diverse audiences by advancing the appreciation, understanding and enjoyment of the arts; to promote interest and participation in the arts; to engender artistic self-expression and personal creativity and to assume a leadership and advocacy role for the arts.

Founded in 1919, MWPAI continues to evolve while maintaining traditions of fine art and culture. The Museum of Art features a renowned permanent collection, fascinating exhibitions and education for all ages in an International-style gallery building designed by world famous architect Philip Johnson and also in Fountain Elms, a superb Victorian-era Italianate mansion. The Performing Arts Division presents world famous soloists and ensembles, rising stars, recitals with commentary, cinema, family programs, outdoor festival concerts, special events, and educational activities. The School of Art offers a nationally accredited college program in association with Pratt Institute and community art education for adults, teens and children.

Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute is seeking a full time Museum Technician. Responsibilities include assisting the Museum of Art Registrar and Exhibition Manager in maintaining galleries and exhibitions; in the installation, de-installation, moving and shipping of the permanent collections and objects on loan to MWPAI. Work involves the use of a wide variety of equipment and techniques necessary to produce quality museum exhibitions. Demonstrated skilled hand and bench work using a wide variety of specialty exhibition materials, occasional painting, crate making and exhibit lighting.
Associates degree in art, art history, studio art, museum studies or similar and 3 to 5 years art handling, exhibition or museum related experience. Bachelor’s degree and 1 to 3 years described experience desired. Carpentry, general construction skills, knowledge of art handling/exhibition practices, basic computer skills and knowledge of OSHA standards integral to position. Occasional travel or driving medium size truck part of duties.

Regular full time (35 hours per week), non-exempt position.
