Job Title: Collections Assistant
Type: Part-time, temporary grant-funded position, ideally beginning mid-October; ~20 hours per week, to a total of 800 hours
Salary: $12 per hour
Reports to: Director of Collections

Job Summary: The Wisconsin Maritime Museum seeks a collections professional to assist in inventorying, photographing, condition reporting, and documenting approximately 2,000 objects at its offsite facility. The Collections Assistant is responsible managing volunteers on this IMLS-funded project, under the supervision of the Director of Collections.

Major Duties:
1. Inventory – Collections Assistant will work as part of a team to inventory, photograph, etc. the collection stored offsite. This collection includes large objects such as boats and engines.
2. Data entry – Enter data compiled from inventory into the PastPerfect database.

General Requirements:
• Must be able to lift 30 lbs
• Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time
• Must be willing to work in a warehouse setting, with large, industrial objects
• Knowledge of digitization processes and scanning
• Knowledge of collections software with a preference for PastPerfect 4.0 or greater

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s or higher degree in Museum Studies, Archives, or History; related fields acceptable preferred but related fields are acceptable. At least 6 months of experience working or volunteering in a museum or library is required. Preference for candidates with three-dimensional collections experience.

Knowledge of maritime history/culture helpful, but not required.
