Artech is seeking a Fine Art Fitter for the Custom Framing and Display Department. Applicants must be creative, technically skilled, and professional, with relevant experience and related references. The ideal candidate will have art handling experience, be familiar with line production, high-end custom framing and art displays.
FINE ART FITTER
The Fine Art Fitter works with internal teams to complete the framing process by mounting art into a frame, vitrine or pedestal. This role requires superior art handling practices to ensure the safety of the art and the quality of the finished product.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Mount fine art into frames, vitrines or pedestals using a variety of different tools and materials.
Apply knowledge of conservation framing techniques to preserve pieces over the course of time.
Anticipate and solve potential problems during the mounting process.
Inspect finished piece with the Art Mounter & Mat Cutter to complete a two-step quality control process.
Wrap and pack artworks for delivery to client.
Maintain inventory and location of fitting materials within the shop.
Clean and maintain fitting workspace, organize materials and notify management of restock needs.
Review and adhere to work order specifications conferring with Art Mounter & Mat Cutter, Designer, Production Manager and/or technical resources as needed.
Remain current with proper fitting techniques and practices including archival trends.
Meet with Design and Production teams on a regular basis to discuss workflow and provide status updates.
Provide exceptional care for client art works from intake to final delivery by strictly adhering to Artech standards and practices.
Occasionally will be asked to preform mounting and fitting of artwork on site.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of 3 years of high-end art handling experience.
Deep understanding of materials and their properties, including but not limited to matting and acrylic/ glass glazing.
Demonstrated pride in the craft and eager desire to increase skill set.
Ability to adhere to workflows and production deadlines.
Ability to work collaboratively with team members across the organization.
Knowledge of art handling procedures for two-and three-dimensional art objects in a variety of materials, sizes, and weights.
Extensive knowledge of conservation framing design, materials, and practices.
Experience following methods and procedures relating to the handling of irreplaceable art objects.
Experience in safely using a variety of framing and shop tools.
Ability to be detail oriented with uncompromising attention to quality.
Organizational skills and self-management demonstrated in the workplace.
Ability to maintain client confidentiality at all times.
Ability to interpret work orders and working drawings.
Creativity, professionalism, and enthusiasm to tackle challenges.
Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position including ability to climb ladders, physically able to confidently lift and flip art up to 30 pounds.
Must pass full background check.
