PACCIN, in partnership with the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Dutch Ministry of Defense, and ICOMAM would like to invite you to a Rigging seminar on Thursday 25 May 2023 at Museum Bronbeek in Arnhem, The Netherlands.
Heavy and difficult to move museum objects – such as historic aircrafts, cannons, fragile stone sculptures or large outdoor statues – are installed using various hoisting techniques. To apply these techniques safely and effectively proper know how is required.
The Rigging workshop aims to provide insight into equipment and techniques used in hoisting and rigging museum pieces. For which action (lifting, turning) do I use which sling? What criteria do safe lashings have to meet? What do you need to look out for when you are installing a large object? And how do you use custom-made clamps and supports with integrated hoisting and/or lifting points? These and many more questions will be discussed in detail during the seminar.
The morning program is mainly theoretic. In the afternoon, after lunch, we put these theoretical lessons into practice in small groups. Key note speaker is Kevin Marshall, former Head of Preparation at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles; former PACCIN Programs Committee Chair and an expert in packing, transporting, and installing cultural heritage.
If you are an Art Handler, Preparator Collection Manager Conservator or just interested, then sign up now! The total cost per person for the whole day is 50 euros (lunch included). You can register until May 15, via the registration link here (https://www.stedelijk.nl/en/eu-museum-rigging-seminar). Please note: there is a limited number of places available!
